A law intern's look at China and Chinese law.

I know top dogs. That's a first.

I'll be honest.  I had some doubts about coming to China and being an intern at a firm that I had never really heard of before.  My parents didn't help, they thought I was (more than) a little reckless in coming, too.  I did my homework, looked around, but I still didn't know anyone at the firm and didn't know what I was getting into.  And they haven't stolen my passport yet.

But here I am.

And they put me in charge of their blog.

Guess they don't have any dirty secrets or they wouldn't put the guy with nothing to lose at the mouthpiece, eh?  But beyond that, being new here I've been looking around.  Looks like Lehman, Lee & Xu is a pretty reputable place (i.e. no reason to worry, Kev), after all, beyond being recommended by a slew of websites and publications (legal500 and such), Mr. Lehman is one of the 30 hottest lawyers in China.

No big deal?  Well, sure, China's legal practice is still new and growing.  Something like 140,000 lawyers here now, with 20,000 more every year.  And, to me, being a top dog in a new market is better than being a top dog in an old one because there is more change, more growth, more unexpected situations--in other words, its more exciting.

So I work for a top dog.  That's good to know.

Maybe I'll pick up a few things and be a top dog some day, too.

P.S. Looking at the "hot 30" list I was surprised to notice that I knew two of the other guys from church, Richard Lewis and Steve Toronto.  I'm going to have to heckle Bishop Lewis about being a top lawyer.

P.S.S. The MSI worldwide electronic newsletter picked this up, too
